Using the TASC wheel in planning

TASC stands for ‘Thinking Actively in a Social Context’. This is an approach which can be used when planning, to create experiences that will challenge and engage students – making links with social learning theories such as Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development.

Aim  / Objectives:
Educational and Practical:
-      To practice and improve pupils` skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing on the topic of the lesson,
-      To revise some information about holidays and traditions,
-      To learn new information about British holidays and traditions,
-  To practice the use of the critical methods, the interactive methods, work in pair\group,
-      To practice the use of the phrases such as ‘What is your favourite holiday?’ or ‘Why do you like holidays?’,
-      To communicate using personal experience and knowledge,
Educative:
-      To bring up children to help and support the others in need,
-      To bring up to be tolerant to other people`s point of view,
-      To motivate children to learn English,
Developing:
-      To develop pupils` critical & creative thinking skills, organizing skills, memory,
-      To develop pupils` skills of communication and cooperation.

  Procedure
I. INTRODUCTION
1.     Greeting
-      Good morning, children! I `m glad to see you!
-      How are you?

2.     Warming – up
-Method “merry-go-round”:
What were you afraid of when you were 5?
3.            Motivation:
- So, look at the picture – slide 2
-          The children are very upset! They are crying! Why? They are afraid!
-          Do you want to help them? Let`s help! (Work with grammar – was/were)
4.      Aim and Tasks:    slide 4
II. MAIN PART
1.            Group work:  Grammar : the Past Simple Tense
2.            Speaking :
- Do you like holidays?
-Why?
-What is your favourite holiday?
When do you celebrate it?
3.     Watching the video and filling the table.
- Pre-watching activities(when? What & how? Why?)
4.Group work -  Reading: find what do people do on these holidays.
-check in.

-      To bring up children to lead a healthy lifestyle – to spend more time in the open air/ to spend their free time actively by running, jumping, swimming, riding a bike, roller-skating etc. ,
-      To bring up children to help and support the others in need,
-      To bring up to be tolerant to other people`s point of view,
-      To motivate children to learn English,

Developing:

-      To develop pupils` critical & creative thinking skills, organizing skills, memory,

Materials: a ball, a parcel with toys, caps, lists with tasks.

I. INTRODUCTION
1.     Greeting
-      Good morning, children! I `m glad to see you!
-      How are you?

2.     Warming – up
Let`s read and write,
Let`s speak and say,
Let`s sing, look, listen,
And play, play, play!
-     Ball Game – communication in a circle:
Let`s play in a circle! Answer my questions:
-          Do you like playing computer games? Football? Jumping? Swimming? Playing hide-and-seek? Board games?
-          What is your favourite colour? Sport? Toy?
3. Presenting the Topic: associative bush – slides 5-13
-      Today we are starting a new unit…., our topic is ‘Free time’
-         What is Free Time? Name words-associations! Free time is...

4. Motivation: MAGIC PARCEL
-          Let`s look inside! What is in it? Chess, a skipping rope, a computer game… Whose toys are these? Are they yours? NO!
-          So, look at the picture – slide 2
-          The children are very upset! They are crying! Why? They lost their toys!
-          Do you want to help them? Let`s help! Then we shall know where to send the parcel – to which country and to whom – slide 3

-      Today we shall work in pairs as investigators \ policemen. Do you want to become policemen? Come here, please, and put these policeman caps on! My congratulations! You are policemen now! And here are your tasks! But our main task is to find out the answer – whose toys are these?
-    Let`s START our INVESTIGATION!
II. MAIN PART
1.            Listening and Matching: 
-    Take  your pencils, please! Open your books at page 34.  Let`s do ex.1 (b) :
Match the kids with their favourites!
-   Checking the results: drive your cars to the police station (come out of the desks to the blackboard). Whose pair is the fastest?
-   Have we found out the answer to our main question? NO!
2.            Speaking – Writing:
-   Take your lists. Task 2.Fill in the table! What is your favourite toy/colour/Sport?
Then ask your friend!
-   Checking the results: drive your cars to the police station (come out of the desks). Whose pair is the fastest?
-  Whose favourite colour is orange? (Is it your skipping rope?) NO!
-  Whose favourite game is computer game? (Is it your computer game?) NO!
Have we found out the answer to our main question? NO!
3. Playtime / Physical Pause: Video “Let`s Move! - Actions”

4.Reading and Writing:
-  So, sit into your cars and do the next task 3!

5.Filling the TABLE ‘I KNOW\I WANT TO FIND OUT\I FOUND OUT’

-      In conclusion, we have found out the answer to our main question.

Sunny, rainy, snowy, windy, cloudy, hot, cold – they are all connected with `weather`
-      Problem task : Can we divide them into  2 columns –
fine weather and bad weather?

-      A puppet doll – Masha appears and says (about bad weather): “No, no, no! It is not a bad weather! It is the best weather! I can stay at home, play computer games . Children, do you like to go out? Why?”
-      We should go out to be healthy!!!
-      There is no bad weather! But some  like lightning and storm can be dangerous!
